The Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) is a post-graduate programme designed for persons aspiring to become tax professionals. The programme equips students with knowledge, skills, values, and competences in taxation, that is necessary to work as tax consultants on matters of tax policy, tax administration, international taxation, and advisors to taxpayers on various aspects of tax compliance and planning. The CTA programme is examined and awarded by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), and has been accredited by Uganda’s National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) at level 8 of the National Qualifications Framework.

What KWIK College does is to:

• Admit students who intend to pursue the programme.
• Facilitate the registration of the students with ICPAU.
• Conduct teaching of the various course modules on the programme; including intensive sessions as the examination season approaches, designed for examination preparedness.
• Arrange with ICPAU to administer examinations at KWIK College campus in Kigali.
• Follow-up with ICPAU to obtain examinations results for each of the students.

CTA is structured in three (3) levels: 

• Level 1: consisting of four (4) examinable papers, through which students are introduced to accounting as a basis for business decisions, business laws, economics, and public finance.
• Level II: consisting of six (6) examinable papers; focusing on financial reporting for tax professionals, together with knowledge and know-how about various types of taxes.
• Level III: consisting of one (1) examinable paper which is an in-depth treatise of tax practice.

There are two examination seasons in a year (May & November). A student is capable of successfully completing the CTA within Twelve (12) to Eighteen (18) months.

You are eligible for CTA programme if you are:

• Holder of at least a Bachelor degree in law, accounting, finance, economics or other business studies disciplines.
• Certified Public Accountant
• Able to effectively pursue studies in English language medium of communication.

At the discretion of ICPAU, exemption from specific examination papers is available to:

• Holder of CPA qualification.
• Holder of a university degree in law, accounting, business administration, finance.
